What should I consider if I want to run for office?
Whether you win or not running for public office will impact your family, your business and your relationships with friends. Those relationships continue long after the campaign is over so make sure the people in your life support your decision. Then talk with some one who can give you an objective view of the race, you as a candidate, your chances, the cost and what must be done to win. Once I decide to run what resources will I need to win? The easy answer is volunteers, money, organization and public exposure. The hard part is identifying where you can find those resources and bringing them to the campaign in a way that will produce a winning formula. To develop that plan, you should consult a professional. How do I raise enough money? The best way to raise money is to personally ask family, friends, business associates, community leaders and persons interested in good government directly for a contribution. That is often difficult for candidates. Other methods can be employed as the campaign progresses. But know the State or Federal rules regarding contributions and get help preparing a Campaign Budget so you will know what you need and how you are going to spend it. What are the main components of any successful campaign? In order to run an effective campaign, you will have to do the following: 1. Know your district, its voters and your opponent. |
